Editors and writers from the new essay collection, My Caesarean (The Experiment, May 2019) will read from their work. C-section birth is often discussed in singular terms, but these writers explore the many nuances of their experience. Authors Amanda Fields, Daniela Montoya-Barthelemy, SooJin Pate, and Rachel Moritz will share excerpts from the book.
A space for radical people who parent to come together for real talk, support, and validation in our parenting struggles, worries, hopes, and dreams! If you identify as Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (QTBIPOC) this is a parenting group for you!
POTLUCK! Be nourished and bring nourishment to share. Bring a dish please!
KID FRIENDLY SPACE! Bring the kids and we’ll see how we do the first couple of times. If there is interest in pooling money to pay for child care, I have potential sitters in mind!
TOPICS! This will vary depending on your interests. We’ll start out this first night with a general discussion and resources around
“How to talk to our kids about sexual health.”
Remember that “sexual health” includes lots and lots of stuff so keep an open mind and come with lots of questions, ideas, and experiences to share.
FREE! We just ask for support cleaning up when the night is over.
This workshop is filled with all the things I wish I had known before my first cesarean birth. It is the product of my study, lived experience, and ancestral knowledge. You’ll find out new things about your body and it’s healing processes. You’ll gain practical tools to help your body physically heal. And you’ll be guided through somatic exercises that will help you to follow your matriz to further integrating your birth experience. You'll be doing all of this in a wonderful community of people who will support you on your journey.
This workshop changes the conversation around cesareans. It’s not about whether your body failed or not. This is a point that people often get hung up on. I am not here to convince you one way or another. I am here to hold space for how you feel now and how you want to feel in the near future. It’s about where you are in your healing process and where you want to take yourself.
It doesn't matter how long it's been since your c-section! This information is always useful!
Babies in lap or carrier welcome in the workshop. Babysitting available for older kids upon request.
Price is sliding scale $50-$100. A lot of love and very hard work goes into my offerings. This pricing is an attempt to keep the work sustainable for me and my family while making it accessible to you and yours. Please be considerate as you select your sliding scale option.

"Learning from Indigenous Practices for Postpartum Wellness"
Sierra Yazzie, LICSW, and Daniela Montoya-Barthelemy, MPH, are both native New Mexicans and mamas raising children in Minnesota. They are also both advocates for a radical shift in our societal norms around postpartum healing - a shift toward indigenous wisdom and away from conventional Western medicine and culture. The presenters will share their personal experiences and knowledge surrounding postpartum care from an indigenous perspective.
Beyond the Baby Blues is a full day conference designed to educate professionals and families about mood disorders and anxiety before, during and after pregnancy. This year's conference includes a keynote presentation from Resmaa Menakem, (MSW, LICSW, S.E.P), several breakout sessions, and a networking lunch. It will be held Tuesday, May 21 at the University of Minnesota Continuing Education Center, 1890 Bufford Avenue, in Saint Paul.
Daniela will be conducting the following workshop for the MCCPM 2018 Conference.
Sexual Health Reintegration
Sexual health is a vital part of the birth process and it is essential to learn how to honor and integrate it before, during, and especially after pregnancy. During the postpartum phase birthing people can easily become disconnected from their sexuality due to multiple societal influences on birth and parenthood. Simultaneously, they can be physically uncomfortable or in pain, in ways they weren’t expecting and don’t understand, due to birth injuries and the new daily movements of caring for an infant. Yet the postpartum time is a unique window where birthing people have the potential to come home to their sexual selves, their inner Eros in a whole new way. It can also be a time of sexual drought and aggravation for new parents or it can be a time of sexual exploration and expansion for them. The time after birth is a very special territory that birthing people are not often prepared to navigate due to our societal structure around birth.
As midwives you hold an invaluable position that can break the mold of the typical “get your body back” messaging aimed at them. You can replace it with an empowering philosophy for every body. This workshop will help you to spark crucial conversations with postpartum people, that are often glossed over by other providers, in this critical time of growth and transformation. Built on values of intersectionality and body positivity, this class aims to equip you with the knowledge you need as you inspire your clients to fully embody the next phase of their lives.

And you’ll be guided through somatic exercises that will help you to follow your matriz to further integrating your birth experience. Sexual health is an essential part of the birth process and it is essential to learn how to honor and integrate it before, during, and after pregnancy. During the postpartum phase we can easily become disconnected from our sexuality due to multiple societal influences on birth and parenthood. Simultaneously, we get wound-up tight in ways we have never been before due to birth injuries and new daily movements (or non-movement) in caring for an infant. Simultaneously, the time after birth is new mental and emotional territory that requires a type of support that is not often available in our society.
This class breaks the mold of the typical “get your body back” messaging aimed at postpartum people and replaces it with an empowering philosophy for every body. Built on values of intersectionality and body positivity, this class aims to equip you with the knowledge and inspiration you need, as you step into the next phase of your life. This class will not strip you of your limited energy. It will nourish your body and mind during this critical time of growth and transformation, leaving you feeling healthier and more connected to yourself and your community.

- Materials and resources for continued support at home.
- Connection to a community of support in-person and online in the La Loba Loves Facebook Group.

There has been so much violence and tragedy endured by mamas of color, especially our Black mamas, historically and recently. Self-care is not enough. There is always a need for more community love and care for one another. As a Latina mama and business woman, this is one of my efforts to stoke the fires of justice through love and hopefully lift the spirits of my siSTARS to continue our sacred work of motherhood in this world!!!
Soon to be announced sponsors, healers, and childcare workers of color and allies will be coming together in a display of gratitude and support for our beautiful mothers.
Mamas of color, let's enjoy a FREE evening of healing together in sisterhood filled with ceremony, music, bodywork, yoga, energy work, and nourishing food! Childcare will also be provided!
The only requirement is, we need you to register as soon as possible so that we know how many supplies and child care workers we need. Please register by emailing me:
- Your name
- The names of any other mamas you will bring with you.
- The number of children you need child care for and their ages.
Send emails through the contact page on this website or directly to firstname.lastname@example.org
To assist with sponsorship of this event please use the button below. No amount is too small. 100% of the donations will go to supplies and paying the healers. I will ensure that the mamas and social media community know who helped to make this event happen! Thank you so much for your generosity! XO
