Postpartum Doula Services

What I provide…

Postpartum Services: Evidence-based, holistic, gender affirming, and traditional support and education regarding your postpartum physical, emotional, sexual, and spiritual health. Support processing your birth and preparing to move into parenthood with Mexican Traditional Medicine. A typical package includes 4 full service postpartum visits beginning immediately after birth and lasting until the end of your cuarentena. The yerbas used for you will be specific to your birth experience.

Traditionally, the cuarentena is a time where familia would gather to care for the mama and her new baby over the first 40 days postpartum. During the cuarentena, the parent who just gave birth is highly encouraged to stay in and around the home as they recover and bond with baby, staying protected as they rebuild life force.

Most services and support is focused on the birthing parent as their mental, physical, and spiritual health is going through a tremendous transformation. It is also true that during this time and after, their mental, physical, and spiritual health will have a crucial impact on the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the newborn.

Postpartum visits typically include:

  • baño vaginal de vapor/ vaginal steam:

    • I prepare the steam and guide you through the process each time ensuring that your tissues heal, you avoid infection, your uterus returns to non-pregnant size, and your pelvic floor, vagina, and hips are able to relax. It also allows you to shed dead cells, finish closing your cervix. It is incredibly important to maintain warmth in your reproductive organs during this time.

  • limpia de baño/ herbal slap bath:

    • This baño immediately follows the steam. This process will help to release any cold or unwanted energies from your body and spirit. It will bring you back into your body and help to ground you after your birth.

  • sobada/ postpartum full body massage:

    • This gentle massage will bring circulation and vitality back into your body. It will infuse you with the care and love you need to continue all of the incredible work you’re doing with your newborn.

  • rebozo body work

    • The rebozo will stretch and unwind your muscles and ligaments after your massage.

  • cerrada/ a traditional closing of all the bones and hips:

    • A physical and energetic closing of your major energy centers especially, your hips and womb space. This rite of passage will help you to close the chapter of being pregnant and growing your child. Each time we finish the cerrada, you will be more sure-footed on your new path of parenthood.

  • tesito/ a large pot of postpartum tea:

    • This tea will be specifically created with you and your birth experience in mind. It will be intended to both comfort you and assist your recovery.

  • caldo/ a large pot of nourishing postpartum soup:

    • My caldos typically have a homemade bone broth base, nourishing and easily digestible veggies, and organic, well-cooked protein. It is intended to bring you and your familia nourishment, strength, and fortification during this sacred time.

Note: Some of the above services, education, and timing will differ depending on whether you have a vaginal birth or a c-section.
